Fragment Forwarding in Lossy Networks

This paper evaluates four forwarding strategies for fragmented datagrams in the Internet of Things (IoT). We focus on classic end-to-end fragmentation, hop-wise reassembly, a minimal approach to direct fragments, and utilizing selective fragment recovery. To fully analyze potentials recovery, we include common congestion control mechanisms. compare all fragmentation comprehensively extensive experiments assess reliability, latency, memory consumption top IEEE 802.15.4 its CSMA/CA MAC implementation. Our key findings three takeaways. First, should be deployed with care since higher packet transmission rates link layer can significantly reduce which even further increase latency because highly increased retransmissions. Second, recovery mitigate problems underneath. Third, chosen such that small windows grow together pacing. In case fewer fragments per datagram, pacing is less concern but window limited by an upper bound.
